STUDENT NAME: Katie Nicoson

MAJOR: Psychology

CLASS OF: 2017

NAME/ LOCATION OF INTERN SITE: Eunoia Family Resource Center

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Handle patient files, help the providers with their notes, answer the phone and work with our computer system, and administer psychological testing.

HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT THIS INTERNSHIP?: Internet search.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST FAVORITE PART OF THE INTERNSHIP: Being able to look over the files of the clients and talk to the provider they are going to see to understand what approach the provider is going to use and why.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST CHALLENGING PART OF THE INTERNSHIP: Only being able to do so much. Being an undergrad I am not able to sit in on session, so getting to read files and talk to the providers is as far as I can go.

WHAT’S BEEN THE BIGGEST LESSON(S): Confidentiality is everything. I live in a small rural town and also having my internship here, there are people who walk in the doors that I know from around town. Keeping their name and why they are coming in confidential is crucial.

ADVICE TO OTHER STUDENTS PREPARING FOR AN INTERNSHIP: Get to know your supervisor and staff you will be working with right away. I get along with mine so well and it has made my internship that much more fun! Also, ask questions. Even if you feel like you can handle it, asking question is a safer approach to anything.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE?: My site has been so amazing and helpful through my time here. I would definitely recommend Eunoia to future students!
