CLASS OF (GRADUATION YEAR): 2017

NAME/ LOCATION OF INTERN SITE: Media Relations, Inc. Burnsville, MN.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: My major responsibilities have included recruiting for internships and full-time positions, conducting both phone and face-to-face interviews, completing reference checks, and training/development.

HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT THIS INTERNSHIP?: The University of St. Thomas Internships website.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST FAVORITE PART OF THE INTERNSHIP: My favorite part of this internship has been getting hands-on experience with working in a Human Resources department in the “real world.”

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST CHALLENGING PART OF THE INTERNSHIP: The most challenging part of this internship has been telling people that they weren’t selected for a certain position. It’s never fun to be the bearer of bad news!

WHAT’S BEEN THE BIGGEST LESSON(S): The biggest lesson that I’ve learned has been how to ask useful and job-related questions as follow-up questions during an interview.

ADVICE TO OTHER STUDENTS PREPARING FOR AN INTERNSHIP: Keep your options open! You might end up loving an internship that you originally thought you would hate.
