Supervising internships or field explorations

Saint Mary’s Internship Program is an academic program designed to provide students with structured, work-learning experiences and to promote partnerships between Saint Mary’s, the community, and the world of work. Participating in the program means you join the faculty and staff at Saint Mary’s in providing a learning experience for an undergraduate college student. Organizations agree to provide challenging, substantial work experiences for students and to supervise and evaluate their performance. In exchange, organizations receive valuable work contributions from highly motivated pre-professionals.

Internships are an integral part of Saint Mary’s curriculum. Each year, nearly 150 students from 20 Academic Departments participate in internships. Students take on responsible roles as workers at government, nonprofit, education and business sites. Most students earn course credit for their internships. Students work directly with site supervisors to create and manage their own internship experiences. Under the joint supervision of a faculty member and the site supervisor, a student completes a learning plan that outlines his/her goals for undertaking the internship.

On campus recruiting

Each year professionals representing various fields visit Saint Mary’s University with hopes of meeting qualified candidates to fill their full-time and internship hiring needs. Career Services and Internships facilitate one-on-one meetings between candidates and employers through on-campus interviews. Employers are also welcome to conduct general information sessions and/or set up an employer information table.

If you would like to schedule an on-campus visit, call or email our office to arrange the details. Employers may pre-select the students they wish to interview or they may interview all students who have submitted their resume.

If you are interested in an information session in conjunction with your interviews and/or would like to speak with faculty during lunch, please let us know and we will help make arrangements. For a successful and well-publicized event, we encourage employers to provide those requests early.

We are committed to helping you meet your recruitment needs and look forward to working with you.
