Emily LoofSTUDENT NAME: Emily Loof

MAJOR: Double majoring in English Literature with a Writing Emphasis and Public Relations

CLASS OF: 2018

NAME/ LOCATION OF INTERN SITE: Great River Shakespeare Festival in Winona, Minnesota

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Conducting interviews & writing organizational publications, ticket sales, managing financial accounts, customer service, patron management, organizer of the 5K Run/Walk

HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT THIS INTERNSHIP?: Through my faculty advisor Dr. Erin Mae Clark, who is friends with my site supervisor.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST FAVORITE PART OF THE INTERNSHIP: Getting to spend time with so many creative people who are not only the best in their fields, but who also turn around and give that knowledge to others.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST CHALLENGING PART OF THE INTERNSHIP: Understanding theater, which I have no prior experience with.

WHAT’S BEEN THE BIGGEST LESSON(S): A little empathy goes a long way. Even though the people I work with have interests that are very different from my own, our passion for the things we love comes from the same place.

ADVICE TO OTHER STUDENTS PREPARING FOR AN INTERNSHIP: Remember that as an intern, you are an independent contractor offering your services to a company or organization. They hired/selected you for a reason; you have something to give that no one else can give. Be less concerned with being an intern robot and focus more on offering something special and new to the company and/or position.
