Impact of Internships
Internships can provide students with fantastic experiences. According to an article from CNN, “Besides getting a foot in the door with a potential employer and looking good on a résumé, internships have other advantages: the opportunity to “test drive” a career, chances to network, establishing relationships with mentors, possible college credit or certification, and accumulating new skills.” Studies show that 7 out of 10 internships turn into full-time jobs (internships.com). When looking for an internship, LinkedIn is always a good route. One 2012 study found that 93% of recruiters used LinkedIn to recruit for permanent and temporary jobs (LinkedIn). Although any internship experience can be beneficial, paid internships statistically lead to better opportunities than unpaid ones. The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), which collected survey results from 15,715 seniors, reported that 60% of respondents in paid internships received at least one job offer (Forbes). There is no doubt that internships can be wonderful experiences for students, and can be beneficial in multiple ways.
