STUDENT NAME: Nathan Grabau

MAJOR: Marketing and Finance

CLASS OF 2017

NAME/ LOCATION OF INTERN SITE: Menards of Winona (Wallcovering Department)

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: One of my responsibilities is taking inventory of the discontinued items of the department. My project is to merchandise the items in order to help increase sales of these items. My other responsibilities include helping guests with their purchases, doing the morning paperwork, handling freight and placing sale tags and signs.

HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT THIS INTERNSHIP? An internet search for internships in the Winona area.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST FAVORITE PART OF THE INTERNSHIP: My favorite part of this internship has been getting hands-on management experience by working in a retail setting.  I have also enjoyed the variety of projects I have gotten to work on.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST CHALLENGING PART OF THE INTERNSHIP: Being in the wallcoverings department which consists of paint, primer, stains, caulk, etc. I would say the most challenging part is learning about the different products.

WHAT’S BEEN THE BIGGEST LESSON(S): Obviously you learn a lot in your classes, but classes can only teach you so much. But with hands-on experience you will learn what’s actually happening in the field and you can see if it’s what you really want to do.

ADVICE TO OTHER STUDENTS PREPARING FOR AN INTERNSHIP: Give 100% and always be willing to learn and grow and keep a positive attitude.
